The most prominent building in the historical view is the elegant Hyde Block (1868-1950), for many years the site of Woolworth’s department store. Today, much of the open intersection in the historic photograph is occupied by the Carl Barron Plaza. Mr. Barron, an influential businessman and active member of the Central Square Business Association, began his career as a furniture salesman.
